Guy Decomble

**Guy Decomble (1910-1993)** was a French actor whose extensive film career made him a familiar face in French cinema, often in supporting but always memorable roles.

He is widely remembered for his roles in numerous popular comedies, particularly alongside Louis de Funès. His most celebrated role is undoubtedly that of instructor Fouquet in "The Gendarme of Saint-Tropez" (1964) saga and its sequels, where he portrayed an eccentric and sometimes overwhelmed character. He also appeared in other successes such as "The Big Restaurant" (1966) and "Hibernatus" (1969).

Decomble excelled at portraying ordinary characters, often authoritative but benevolent figures, or simple men who were a bit clumsy and prone to nervousness. Despite his renown in comedies, he demonstrated remarkable depth in dramatic roles, culminating in his acclaimed portrayal of Bishop Myriel in Robert Hossein's 1982 adaptation of "Les Misérables." His versatility and screen presence made him a pillar of French cinema.
