Harry Gribbon

Harry Gribbon (1885-1961) was an American comedic actor, a prominent figure of silent cinema. His career was inextricably linked to the comedies produced by Mack Sennett for Keystone Studios, where he became a familiar face. Recognizable by his distinctive mustache and robust build, Gribbon specialized in roles that utilized physical comedy and slapstick humor.

He often played gruff but good-natured characters, bumbling policemen, or awkward authority figures, becoming a staple of the era's most frantic gags. Although he did not achieve the fame of other stars, his screen presence and his ability to generate laughter made him an essential element of that genre. He continued to act in sound films, albeit in minor roles, until the 1940s.
