Hélène Chatelain
Hélène Chatelain (1935-2020) was a French actress, known primarily for her iconic role in Chris Marker's science fiction short film *La Jetée* (1962). In the film, her ethereal presence and enigmatic face became the central and unforgettable image of the "woman from the future" that the protagonist seeks.
Although *La Jetée* remains her most celebrated performance, Chatelain also appeared in other important films, including Alain Cavalier's *L'Insoumis* (1964) and Sergei Bondarchuk's Soviet epic *War and Peace* (1966-1967), in which she played Sophie Peronskaïa. Her roles often saw her embody characters with a certain aura of mystery or melancholy, characterized by a profound expressive intensity. Beyond acting, she was also a translator, writer, and documentarian, but it is cinema that immortalized her figure.
