Henry Daniell

Henry Daniell (1894-1963) was a British actor, renowned for his masterful portrayal of cold, aristocratic, and often sinister characters. With his slender physique, refined features, and impeccable diction, Daniell excelled in roles as calculating intellectuals, detached noblemen, or sophisticated antagonists.

His film career, predominantly American, boasts memorable performances. He is remembered as Baron de Varville in *Camille* (1936) and for his role in *The Great Dictator* (1940). He shone in the horror genre, particularly as Dr. MacFarlane in *The Body Snatcher* (1945), alongside Boris Karloff. Other important films include *The Heiress* (1949) and *Witness for the Prosecution* (1957). Daniell was able to impart a sinister elegance and a subtle menace to his characters, making him one of the most distinctive "villains" of the classic screen.
