**Henry B. Walthall** (1878-1936) was an American actor, a prominent figure of the silent film era. He is primarily remembered for his prolific collaboration with director D.W. Griffith, becoming one of his favorite performers.
His most iconic role was that of Colonel Ben Cameron in "The Birth of a Nation" (1915), which established him as a star. He also appeared in other seminal works by Griffith, such as "Intolerance" (1916). Walthall excelled at portraying noble, sensitive, or tormented characters, often with a melancholic air and profound expressiveness that made him ideal for dramatic roles.
With the transition to sound, he continued to act in character roles, demonstrating versatility until his death.
