**Jane Wyman** (1917-2007) was an American actress of remarkable versatility, whose film career spanned over fifty years. She began her career in the 1930s with light and musical roles, before establishing herself in more dramatic parts.

Her breakthrough came with *The Lost Weekend* (1945), where she demonstrated her dramatic depth. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her moving portrayal of a deaf-mute girl in *Johnny Belinda* (1948), a role that established her as an interpreter of complex and vulnerable characters.

In the 1950s, she became an icon of Douglas Sirk's melodramas, often alongside Rock Hudson, in films such as *Magnificent Obsession* (1954) and *All That Heaven Allows* (1955). In these roles, Wyman excelled at portraying strong, compassionate yet resilient women, capable of facing adversity with dignity. Her career later extended with great success to television, notably with the series *Falcon Crest*.
