Jean Galland

**Jean Galland** (1897-1977) was a French actor known for his elegant and often ambiguous screen presence. His film career spanned the 1930s and 1940s, working with prominent directors.

He is remembered for his intense performances in masterpieces of poetic realism and French noir. Among his most memorable roles were the cunning Grandmorin in Jean Renoir's *La Bête humaine* (1938), Dr. Vorzet in Henri-Georges Clouzot's *Le Corbeau* (1943), and the naval captain in Jean Grémillon's *Remorques* (1941).

Galland excelled at embodying sophisticated characters, often cynical or tormented, with a distinctive combination of charm and unease. His deep voice and controlled presence made him ideal for roles as figures of authority, but also as men whose respectability concealed dark facets.
