
John Hillerman
John Hillerman (Denison, December 20, 1932 – Houston, November 9, 2017) was an American actor, known for his long career as a character actor in film and television. He often portrayed authoritative, refined, sometimes pompous or eccentric figures, distinguishing himself with an ironic elegance and an impeccable accent.
Among his most significant film appearances were roles in classics such as *The Last Picture Show* (1971), *Paper Moon* (1973), *Chinatown* (1974), where he played Russ Yelburton, and *Blazing Saddles* (1974).
However, it was the role of Sergeant Major Jonathan Higgins III in the celebrated television series *Magnum, P.I.* (1980-1988) that earned him international fame. For this performance, he perfected an impeccable British accent, becoming Thomas Magnum's iconic butler and sarcastic roommate. His distinctive style and ability to embody complex but often comical characters made him a beloved face on both the big and small screens.
