José Ferrer

**José Ferrer** (1912-1992) was a Puerto Rican actor of great versatility, also known as a director and producer.

Initially established in theater, he won an Oscar for Best Actor for his intense portrayal of the poet-swordsman Cyrano de Bergerac (1950), a role that brought him widespread fame. He was nominated again for his role as the painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec in *Moulin Rouge* (1952).

Known for his eloquence and deep voice, Ferrer excelled at embodying complex and often ambiguous characters, from authoritative figures to diabolically fascinating intellectuals. Among his most significant film roles are the lawyer Barney Greenwald in *The Caine Mutiny* (1954) and the cold Turkish Bey in *Lawrence of Arabia* (1962). His long career solidified him as one of cinema's most distinctive and respected actors.
