Josef Rovenský

**Josef Rovenský (1894-1937)** was a Czech actor. His film career saw him star in numerous silent and sound films during the interwar period.

He is remembered for his ability to portray common people, simple, honest men, often possessing strong moral fiber or touching naivety. His natural style and screen presence made him an emblematic figure of Czech poetic realism.

Among his most significant performances are those in *Řeka* (The River, 1933) and *Maryša* (1935), both of which he also directed, as well as *Před maturitou* (Before the Graduation Exam, 1932) and *Batalion* (The Battalion, 1937). His premature death cut short a promising career, leaving a distinctive mark on Czech cinema of the time.
