**Judy Garland** (born Frances Ethel Gumm, 1922-1969) was an icon of American cinema, a celebrated actress and singer. Becoming a child star at MGM, she achieved worldwide fame as Dorothy Gale in *The Wizard of Oz* (1939), where she performed her signature song, "Over the Rainbow."

Her film career was dominated by musical successes. She starred in numerous "Andy Hardy" series films and classics such as *Meet Me in St. Louis* (1944) and *Easter Parade* (1948). Recognized for her powerful and unique voice and her intense emotionality, she often portrayed characters who were vibrant yet vulnerable.

Later in her career, she demonstrated remarkable dramatic versatility, earning acclaim for *A Star Is Born* (1954) and an Academy Award nomination for *Judgment at Nuremberg* (1961). Garland remains one of the most beloved and influential figures in cinematic history.
