
Kanu Bannerje
Kanu Banerjee (1905-1983) was an Indian actor, an emblematic figure of Bengali cinema. He is universally recognized for his role as Harihar Roy, the father of the protagonist Apu, in Satyajit Ray's celebrated Apu Trilogy.
This includes masterpieces such as *Pather Panchali* (1955) and *Aparajito* (1956). Banerjee excelled at portraying honest male characters, often grappling with financial hardship but endowed with great dignity and spirit. His performance was imbued with a subtle melancholy and a resilience typical of the common Bengali man of that era. His portrayal of Harihar remains one of the most memorable and poignant in the history of Indian cinema, defining his career.
