
Lee J. Cobb
Lee J. Cobb (birth name Leo Jacoby, 1911 – 1976) was an American actor known for his imposing presence and versatility. His long and prolific film career was studded with memorable roles, often as authority figures, powerful men, or complex and tormented characters.
Among his most iconic performances are Johnny Friendly, the brutal union boss in Elia Kazan's *On the Waterfront* (1954), and Juror #3, the gruff and irascible antagonist in Sidney Lumet's *12 Angry Men* (1957). He is also remembered for Detective William Kinderman in *The Exorcist* (1973).
Cobb excelled at portraying emotionally powerful figures, imbuing his characters with a unique gravitas and dramatic intensity. He often played antagonists or morally ambiguous figures, distinguishing himself with his powerful yet measured acting.
