Linda Manz

Linda Manz (1961-2020) was an American actress known for her roles as rebellious teenagers and outsiders in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Her memorable debut came in Terrence Malick's *Days of Heaven* (1978), where she played Richard Gere's younger sister, standing out for her natural acting and voice-over narration. She solidified her image as a troubled teenager in Philip Kaufman's *The Wanderers* (1979) and, especially, in Dennis Hopper's *Out of the Blue* (1980). In the latter film, her portrayal of the young punk Cindy Barnes, alienated and rebellious, became iconic.

Manz was renowned for her raw and authentic style, often embodying marginalized or working-class characters with a disarming naturalness. After a hiatus, she returned in small roles, such as in Harmony Korine's *Gummo* (1997), cementing her status as a cult icon.
