Lucille La Verne
**Lucille La Verne (1872-1945)** was an American actress, known for her distinctive film career, particularly in the sound era. After a long theatrical career, she established herself in cinema as one of the most celebrated character actresses.
Often cast for her husky voice and austere appearance, she excelled at portraying elderly figures, rural women, and authoritarian or sinister matriarchs. Her most notable films include D.W. Griffith's *Way Down East* (1920), where she played the very cruel Squire Bartlett, and the cult horror film *White Zombie* (1932), in the role of the mysterious Baroness Zombie.
Her most iconic role, however, was voicing the Evil Queen and the Witch in the Disney classic *Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs* (1937), which immortalized her image as an unforgettable villain.
