Mady Christians

**Mady Christians (1892-1951)** was an Austro-German actress of remarkable elegance and stage presence. Her film career began in Germany, where she became a prominent figure in silent cinema and the early sound era. Among her most memorable roles from this period was her performance in Robert Wiene's *Der Rosenkavalier* (1926).

Forced to emigrate to the United States due to Nazism, she also established herself in Hollywood. Here, she was often cast as aristocratic, strong women or women of high social standing, benefiting from her deep voice and dignity. Among her most notable American films are *Seventh Heaven* (1937), as the gentle Madame Borel, the iconic Fräulein Rottenmeier in *Heidi* (1937), and the Duchess de Praslin in *All This, and Heaven Too* (1940), her last film appearance.
