Mae Marsh
Mae Marsh (born Mary Warne Marsh; Madrid, New Mexico, November 9, 1894 – Hollywood, California, February 13, 1968) was an American actress, a prominent star of the silent film era.
Known for her remarkable emotional expressiveness, Marsh became one of director D.W. Griffith's favorite actresses. Her typical roles were those of innocent young women, often fragile and vulnerable, who endured great suffering. Among her most celebrated films are Griffith masterpieces such as *The Birth of a Nation* (1915), where she played Flora Cameron, and *Intolerance* (1916), in the poignant role of the "Dear One." She also appeared in *Hearts of the World* (1918). With the advent of sound film, her starring career waned, but she continued to work in character roles until the 1960s.
