Marion Mack

**Marion Mack** (born Joey Marion McCreery; 1902-1989) was an American actress, primarily remembered for her lead female role in the 1926 silent film classic *The General*, alongside Buster Keaton.

In the film, she portrays Annabelle Lee, the fiancée of locomotive engineer Johnny Gray (Keaton). Her character stands out for a notable evolution, transitioning from a figure initially perceived as a 'hindrance' to a courageous and resourceful heroine who actively participates in the misadventures and the comedic and action sequences. Mack distinguished herself by her ability to combine the grace of a leading lady with a surprising aptitude for physical comedy and the expression of tenacity, making her an effective foil for Keaton's deadpan style.

Although she had appeared in some minor films previously, *The General* remains her most significant and iconic work. Her film career was relatively brief, as she retired from the screen shortly after the film's success.
