Maurice Beerblock

**Maurice Beerblock** is a Belgian actor whose career has been mainly in cinema. He achieved international fame with his measured and subtly tormented portrayal of Sylvain, the son, in Chantal Akerman's celebrated masterpiece *Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles* (1975).

This role marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration with the director, leading him to also appear in *Les Rendez-vous d'Anna* (1978). Beerblock is recognized for his ability to bring ordinary characters, often introverted or burdened by an oppressive daily life, to life through his essential yet deeply expressive acting.

His style focuses on interiority and subtlety, making even supporting roles memorable. He has continued to work steadily, appearing in major productions such as Benoît Jacquot's *Le Journal d'une femme de chambre* (2015). His discreet but incisive presence has made him a familiar face in European arthouse cinema.
