Max Davidson

**Max Davidson (1875-1950)** was an American actor, best known for his work in silent cinema. He is remembered as one of the most effective comic character actors of his era.

Specializing in roles of Jewish immigrants, often bewildered or ill-treated by fate, Davidson became a key figure in Leo McCarey's comedies, produced by Hal Roach Studios. His style was characterized by a unique facial expressiveness, blending humor with a subtle touch of pathos, portraying the common man with his frailties and misfortunes.

Among his most notable films are the hilarious "Call of the Cuckoo" (1927), "Jewish Prudence" (1927), "Pass the Gravy" (1928), and "The Boy Friend" (1926). Although he appeared in some sound films, his popularity remained tied to the golden age of silent film.
