**Michael Rennie** (1909-1971) was a British actor, renowned for his elegant bearing and deep voice. His film career is inextricably linked to the role of the alien Klaatu in the science fiction classic *The Day the Earth Stood Still* (1951), which brought him international acclaim.
After moving to Hollywood, Rennie became a familiar face in numerous dramas and adventure films. He often portrayed authoritative, intellectual, or noble characters, such as Jean Valjean in *Les Misérables* (1952) or the tribune Marcellus Gallio in *The Robe* (1953), the first CinemaScope film.
