Michiyo Kogure
Michiyo Kogure (1918-1990) was a prominent Japanese actress of the Golden Age of Japanese cinema. Known for her elegance and ability to portray complex and independent women, often with a veil of melancholy or determination, she collaborated with masters such as Yasujirō Ozu, Akira Kurosawa, and Mikio Naruse.
With Kurosawa, she delivered memorable performances in *Drunken Angel* (Yoidore Tenshi, 1948) and *Stray Dog* (Nora Inu, 1949), where she personified ambiguous and resilient female figures. For Ozu, she appeared in masterpieces such as *Tokyo Story* (Tōkyō Monogatari, 1953), albeit in a secondary but significant role, and *The Flavor of Green Tea over Rice* (Ochazuke no Aji, 1952). Her role in Naruse's *Repast* (Meshi, 1951) is equally notable. Her filmography, comprising over 100 titles, makes her an iconic figure of post-war Japanese cinema.
