Miriam Cooper (New York, 1890 – Charlottesville, 1976) was a prominent American actress active during the silent film era. Known for her intense collaboration with director D.W. Griffith, she rose to fame by portraying iconic roles in his epic masterpieces.
She is particularly remembered for her poignant performance as Margaret Cameron in *The Birth of a Nation* (1915) and for the role of the "Street Urchin" in *Intolerance* (1916). Her style was characterized by a profound dramatic intensity, often portraying brave and resilient women, but also tragically vulnerable, victims of injustice or adverse fates. Her career was relatively brief but impactful; she retired from the screen in 1924, after marrying director Raoul Walsh.
