
Mirjana Jokovic
Mirjana Joković (Belgrade, 1959) is a Serbian actress known for her intense film career, particularly in Yugoslav and Serbian cinema.
She gained international recognition primarily through her collaborations with director Emir Kusturica. Memorable roles include those in *When Father Was Away on Business* (Otac na službenom putu, 1985), a Palme d'Or winner at Cannes, and the renowned *Underground* (Podzemlje, 1995), also a Palme d'Or recipient.
Another prominent role was in *Cabaret Balkan* (Bure baruta, 1998), an ensemble film that explored the complexities of post-war society. Joković is appreciated for her ability to portray complex, resilient, and often tormented female characters, imbued with profound emotional intensity.
In the 2000s, she moved to the United States, where she continued her career in independent cinema and television, in addition to teaching acting at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).
