Nils Poppe
Nils Poppe (1908-2000) was a Swedish actor and comedian, an iconic figure of national cinema and theatre. His film career was dominated by comedic roles, in which he excelled in slapstick and physical comedy.
He often portrayed clumsy, naive characters or the "little man" who finds himself in absurd situations. Among his most celebrated films as a protagonist were the popular "Bom" series comedies, such as *Soldat Bom* (1948), where his mime work and comedic timing shone.
Despite his comedic inclination, he demonstrated versatility in dramatic or more nuanced roles, particularly in collaborations with Ingmar Bergman. He appeared in *Prison* (Fängelse, 1949) and, memorably, as the actor Plog in *The Seventh Seal* (Det sjunde inseglet, 1957). His energy and talent made him one of the most beloved artists of his time in Sweden.
