Noble Johnson

Noble Johnson (1881 – 1978) was an American actor, a prolific figure and a pioneer of silent cinema and the early sound era.

An African American, Johnson was known for his remarkable versatility, which allowed him to portray a wide range of "ethnic" roles, often through elaborate makeup. Thanks to his imposing appearance and physical stature, he was frequently cast in roles as tribal chiefs, exotic natives, servants, and antagonists, distinguishing himself with his strong screen presence.

Among his most celebrated films are *The Thief of Bagdad* (1924), in which he played a prince, *The Most Dangerous Game* (1932), and the classic *King Kong* (1933), where he portrayed the indigenous chief of Skull Island. In 1916, he co-founded the Lincoln Motion Picture Company, one of the first African-American film production companies.
