**Omar Sharif** (Alexandria, Egypt, 1932 – Cairo, 2015), an Egyptian actor, gained international fame with his charm and talent.
His career took off in 1962 with the role of Sherif Ali in David Lean's *Lawrence of Arabia*, which earned him an Academy Award nomination and made him a globally recognized face. He then solidified his status as a global star with memorable performances, such as Yuri Zhivago in the epic *Doctor Zhivago* (1965), also directed by Lean, and Nicky Arnstein in *Funny Girl* (1968) alongside Barbra Streisand.
Sharif was renowned for his ability to embody complex and captivating characters, often romantic or heroic figures, endowed with great dignity and intellect. His elegant bearing and magnetic presence made him an icon of international cinema.
