Oscar Levant
Oscar Levant (1906-1972) was an American pianist, composer, and actor, celebrated for his caustic wit and cynical personality. In cinema, he often played himself or similar characters: intellectual, sarcastic, and musical friends, often a bit neurotic. His film career saw him emerge as a memorable character actor.
Among his most important films are *An American in Paris* (1951), where he played Gene Kelly's sardonic pianist friend; *Rhapsody in Blue* (1945), in the role of George Gershwin's friend; and *The Band Wagon* (1953), as a cynical lyricist. His stage presence, combined with his musical talent (often showcased in his roles), made him a unique and unforgettable actor.
