**Paul Frankeur** (Paris, 1905 – Paris, 1974) was a French actor, one of the most recognizable in post-war cinema. Known for his stern face and imposing presence, he specialized in character roles, often portraying figures of authority – policemen, commissioners, judges, or officers – but also common men, working-class figures, or ambiguous characters.
His film career was studded with collaborations with great directors. He was a frequent face in the masterpieces of Henri-Georges Clouzot (*The Wages of Fear*, *Les Diaboliques*), Jean-Pierre Melville (*Le Samouraï*, *Army of Shadows*), and Luis Buñuel (*The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie*, *The Phantom of Liberty*).
