Peter Graves
Peter Graves (1926-2010), an American actor, was a recognizable figure throughout his long film and television career. He began his career playing dramatic roles, often portraying authoritative and serious figures, as exemplified by films such as Billy Wilder's *Stalag 17* (1953), *The Night of the Hunter* (1955), and *The War of the Worlds* (1953).
Although widely known for his television role in *Mission: Impossible*, his composure and dignified bearing also defined his cinematic presence. Undoubtedly, his most iconic film role was that of Captain Clarence Oveur in the cult comedy *Airplane!* (1980), where he brilliantly parodied his reliable, serious persona. Graves was known for his measured acting and his poised manner, ideal for authoritative characters, yet with a subtle humor that surfaced, particularly in his lighter performances.
