Ray Collins
Ray Collins (1889-1965) was an American actor, known for his prolific career as a character actor in classic American cinema. After establishing his reputation in theater and radio, Collins began his notable film career in the early 1940s.
He is particularly remembered for his collaborations with Orson Welles, playing the unyielding Boss Jim W. Gettys in *Citizen Kane* (1941) and Uncle George in *The Magnificent Ambersons* (1942). Collins specialized in roles as authoritative figures: lawyers, judges, politicians, military personnel, and businessmen, often characterized by dignity, sternness, or moral rigidity.
Among his other notable films are *The Best Years of Our Lives* (1946), *The Heiress* (1949), and *Touch of Evil* (1958), where he played District Attorney Adair. His imposing presence and measured acting made him a reliable and recognizable face on the big screen.
