Robert Armstrong

Robert Armstrong (1890-1973) was an American actor, best known for his role as Carl Denham, the impresario-explorer, in the classic *King Kong* (1933) and its sequel *Son of Kong* (1933).

A prominent figure among character actors, Armstrong appeared in over 200 films throughout his prolific career. He distinguished himself in roles as adventurous characters, showmen, or authoritative and self-assured figures. His style was often characterized by a sometimes brash, yet fundamentally good-hearted vivacity, making him ideal for roles as men of action or determined impresarios.

He reunited with director Merian C. Cooper in *Mighty Joe Young* (1949), playing a role similar to Denham's, solidifying his image associated with grand adventure films featuring giant creatures. His ability to infuse his characters with charisma and credibility made him a memorable presence on the silver screen.
