**Robert Donner** (New York, December 27, 1931 – Los Angeles, June 21, 2006) was an American character actor.

With his tall, gaunt figure and rugged face, he specialized in common man roles, often rustic, eccentric, or menacing. He is remembered for his appearances in numerous Westerns and dramatic films.

Among his most significant film performances are those in *Cool Hand Luke* (1967), where he had one of his first important roles as a "Chain Gang Man", in Howard Hawks' *El Dorado* (1966), and in the opening sequence of Sergio Leone's *Once Upon a Time in the West* (1968). He worked multiple times with Clint Eastwood, appearing in *High Plains Drifter* (1973) and *The Eiger Sanction* (1975).

A prolific actor, he also had a long television career, with recurring roles in series such as *The Waltons* and *Mork & Mindy*. His style was distinguished by his ability to infuse authenticity and a certain vulnerability even into his roughest characters.
