Robert Ryan

**Robert Ryan (1909-1973)** was an American actor remembered for his intense and often sinister performances. Specializing in complex antagonists, authoritarian figures, or tormented individuals, his imposing physicality and psychological depth made him an unforgettable presence.

He excelled in numerous film noirs and Westerns. Among his most significant works are *Crossfire* (1947), where he portrayed a racist, *The Set-Up* (1949), in the role of a washed-up boxer, and *Bad Day at Black Rock* (1955), as the leader of a violent gang. He also left an indelible mark in the twilight Western *The Wild Bunch* (1969).

Ryan excelled at portraying latent violence and psychological vulnerability, often in characters on the brink of morality, solidifying his reputation as a great character actor.
