Roberto Cobo
Roberto Cobo (1930-2002) was a Mexican actor, known for his versatility and the portrayal of complex and often marginal characters. His film career began in a striking way with the role of the rebellious Jaibo in Luis Buñuel's *Los Olvidados* (1950), a performance that established him as an icon of Mexican cinema.
He then collaborated extensively with key directors such as Arturo Ripstein and Jaime Humberto Hermosillo. Among his most memorable roles are those in *El castillo de la pureza* (1973) and, notably, La Manuela, the complex transgender character in Ripstein's *El lugar sin límites* (1977), which earned him an Ariel Award.
Cobo distinguished himself for his ability to bring to life intense, vulnerable yet resilient characters, often on the fringes of society, making him a central figure in Latin American auteur cinema.
