Roger Gaillard
**Roger Gaillard (1904-1989)** was a French actor, a recognizable but often understated presence in French cinema for decades. Specializing in character and supporting roles, his career was closely associated with director Claude Chabrol, with whom he collaborated on numerous films.
Among his most significant performances with Chabrol are *Le Boucher* (1970), where he played the headmaster, and *Les Noces rouges* (1973). Gaillard was known for his ability to embody authoritative yet understated figures: doctors, notaries, magistrates, or officials, often with a detached and thoughtful expression. He also worked with other major names such as Pierre Granier-Deferre in *Le Chat* (1971) and Georges Lautner. His understated and realistic style made him a reliable and memorable presence, contributing to the depth of narratives without ever dominating.
