**Roland Monod (1930-1996)** was a French actor, known for his numerous character roles in cinema. His career was marked by collaborations with prominent directors in works that explored political and social themes.

He distinguished himself in films such as Costa Gavras' Z (1969) and L'Aveu (1970), where he often played authority figures, bureaucrats, or men of law. He also worked with Jean-Pierre Melville in “Le Cercle Rouge” (1970) and “Un Flic” (1972), bringing calm but incisive characters to the screen.

A particularly notable role was that of key witness in Marcel Ophüls' famous documentary “Le Chagrin et la Pitié” (1969), offering a unique perspective on the French Resistance. Monod was appreciated for his understated acting and his ability to embody intellectual characters or officials, giving them a measured presence and often a subtle gravitas.
