Rutger Oelsen Hauer (1944-2019) was a Dutch actor internationally celebrated for his intense and charismatic presence.
His career gained momentum in the Netherlands with director Paul Verhoeven, starring in acclaimed films such as *Turks Fruit* (1973) and *Soldaat van Oranje* (1977). International success came with his iconic role as the replicant Roy Batty in the sci-fi masterpiece *Blade Runner* (1982); his final "tears in rain" monologue became legendary.
Hauer often specialized in complex and ambiguous characters: antagonists, anti-heroes, or mysterious figures, leveraging his imposing physicality and piercing eyes.
