Ryuichi Sakamoto
Ryuichi Sakamoto (1952-2023), a renowned Japanese musician and composer, also had a brief but significant acting career, often linked to the films for which he composed music.
His most iconic role was that of Captain Yonoi in Nagisa Ōshima's *Furyo* (Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, 1983). Here, Sakamoto portrayed an enigmatic and stern Japanese officer, displaying an intense and controlled screen presence, capable of communicating psychological depth with minimal gestures.
He then appeared in a cameo role as Amakasu in Bernardo Bertolucci's *L'ultimo imperatore* (The Last Emperor, 1987), a film for which he also won an Oscar for the soundtrack. Although acting was not his primary occupation, his cinematic appearances were notable for their impact and memorability, often characterized by authoritative or enigmatic figures.
