Benjamin Sherman "Scatman" Crothers (1910-1986) was a versatile American artist, known both as a jazz musician and an actor. His film career gained momentum in the latter half of his life, making him a familiar face and voice.

He is best known for his role as Dick Hallorann, the telepathic chef, in Stanley Kubrick's cult horror film *The Shining* (1980). Other significant performances include Nurse Resident in *One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest* (1975).

His distinctive voice made him a sought-after voice actor, such as Scat Cat in Disney's *The Aristocats* (1970) and the titular character in *Hong Kong Phooey* (1974).
