**Terry Gilliam** (born November 22, 1940) is a British-American film director, screenwriter, and animator, best known for his work with Monty Python. After co-directing *Monty Python and the Holy Grail*, he embarked on a solo directing career, developing a unique and recognizable style.

His works, often dreamlike, surreal, and visually rich, range from the fantastical to the dystopian. Among his most celebrated films are the dystopian masterpiece *Brazil* (1985), the epic *The Adventures of Baron Munchausen* (1988), and the science fiction thriller *12 Monkeys* (1995). His cinema explores themes of escapism, madness, and social critique, blending black humor with baroque visions and an unmistakable aesthetic. Although he has made occasional cameos in his films, his renown is primarily linked to his directing.
