Tom Powers
**Tom Powers** (1891-1955) was an American character actor, primarily active in Hollywood cinema. Known for his prolific career, he specialized in playing authoritative or professional figures, often with an air of calm competence, but sometimes also of ambiguity or coldness.
Among his most celebrated performances are his portrayal of District Attorney Keyes in Billy Wilder's *La fiamma del peccato* (Double Indemnity, 1944), considered one of his most iconic roles. Other notable roles include Dr. Blair in *La scala a chiocciola* (The Spiral Staircase, 1946) and Senator McPherson in *Vertigine* (Laura, 1944). His screen presence, characterized by clear diction and a measured demeanor, made him a familiar face in many classic film noir and dramatic films.
