**Victor Jory (1902-1982)** was an American actor, known for his long and prolific film career. Specializing as a character actor, he excelled at portraying characters who were often authoritarian, sinister, or openly evil. His imposing presence and distinctive voice made him ideal for such roles.

Among his most iconic roles were the cruel Injun Joe in *The Adventures of Tom Sawyer* (1938) and the complex Captain Keller, Helen's father, in *The Miracle Worker* (1962), reprising a role already acclaimed on Broadway. He also had a brief but memorable appearance in *Gone with the Wind* (1939) and appeared in numerous Westerns and adventure films. Jory remained a recognizable and respected figure for over five decades of his career.
