Ward Crane
Ward Crane (1892-1928) was a prominent American silent film actor.
He was known for his roles as sophisticated yet often unlikable characters: wealthy playboys, conspirators, or antagonists. His elegance and ability to embody a certain arrogance made him a recognizable face of the era. Among his most memorable performances are Prince Mirko in Erich von Stroheim's *The Merry Widow* (1925) and, most notably, the iconic and brutal Tom Buchanan in the first film version of *The Great Gatsby* (1926). His promising career was tragically cut short by his premature death, leaving him among the unforgettable faces of the silent era.
