Wilfrid Hyde-White

Wilfrid Hyde-White (1903-1998) was a British actor, known for his prolific film career and for his masterful portrayal of a series of characters typical of the British upper class. He often appeared as a good-natured aristocrat, a clumsy civil servant, or a distinguished but slightly confused elderly gentleman.

His most iconic role is undoubtedly that of Colonel Pickering in the musical *My Fair Lady* (1964), alongside Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn, for which he was acclaimed. Other notable appearances include *The Third Man* (1949) and comedies such as *Carry On Nurse* (1959). With his elegant bearing and impeccable diction, Hyde-White became the archetype of the English gentleman, leaving an indelible mark on British and international films for decades.
