Zasu Pitts
**Zasu Pitts** (1894 – 1963) was an American actress whose long film career spanned the silent and sound eras. She began her career in dramatic roles, gaining recognition for her intense performance in Erich von Stroheim's silent film *Greed* (1924).
With the advent of sound, her peculiar tremulous voice, wide-eyed gaze, and nervous hand gestures made her one of Hollywood's most recognizable and beloved comedic actresses. Her style was characterized by subtle comedy, often portraying naive little women, clumsy housekeepers, or victims of grotesque situations. She is particularly remembered for her frequent appearances alongside Laurel & Hardy (Stanlio e Ollio) in numerous short and feature films, where she provided a perfect counterpoint to their misadventures. Her uniqueness secured her a lasting place in the history of cinematic comedy.
