Zeppo Marx

**Herbert Manfred "Zeppo" Marx** (1901-1979) was the youngest of the Marx Brothers and an American actor. He is primarily remembered for appearing in the first five feature films of the celebrated comedy team.

Unlike his brothers Groucho, Harpo, and Chico, Zeppo did not portray a bizarre comedic character. His typical role was that of the straight man or the young lover. He provided a more "normal" counterpoint and an anchor to the group's surreal madness, often serving as a vehicle for the romantic plot.

He appeared in key films such as "The Cocoanuts" (1929), "Animal Crackers" (1930), "Monkey Business" (1931), "Horse Feathers" (1932), and "Duck Soup" (1933). After "Duck Soup," he left the group to pursue other careers, feeling limited by his role. His presence, although less conspicuous, was functional to the Marx Brothers' initial comedic dynamic.
