Bob Fosse

Bob Fosse (1927-1987) was a renowned American director and choreographer, whose distinctive imprint redefined the cinematic musical. After a distinguished stage career, he made his film directorial debut with *Sweet Charity* (1969).

His masterpiece is *Cabaret* (1972), an eight-time Academy Award winner, which revolutionized the genre with its dark atmosphere, innovative direction, and performances integral to the narrative. He then directed the biopic *Lenny* (1974), an intense drama about the life of Lenny Bruce, and the semi-autobiographical *All That Jazz* (1979), a Palme d'Or winner at Cannes, a raw exploration of the entertainment world and his psyche.

His style is characterized by bold and sensual choreographies, dynamic editing, and an often cynical narrative, exploring themes of ambition, self-destruction, and the disillusionment behind the glamour of show business.
