**Chloé Zhao** (Beijing, 1982) is a Chinese-American film director, screenwriter, and producer, acclaimed for her distinctive and deeply human cinematic style.

Her career took off with independent films such as *Songs My Brothers Taught Me* (2015) and, in particular, *The Rider* (2017), which earned her international acclaim. In these works, Zhao developed a naturalistic approach, often employing non-professional actors and stories rooted in the reality of rural America, exploring themes of identity, loss, and resilience.

She achieved global fame with *Nomadland* (2020), a masterpiece that earned her the Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director, making her the first Asian woman and only the second woman ever to win the latter award.
