Edgar Reitz

**Edgar Reitz (b. 1932)** is an influential German film director, screenwriter, and producer, a central figure in post-war cinema. Initially associated with the New German Cinema, his career is defined by the monumental film and television saga **"Heimat"** (Homeland), which began in 1984.

This epic, which includes "Heimat – Eine deutsche Chronik" (1984), "Die zweite Heimat – Chronik einer Jugend" (1992), "Heimat 3 – Chronik einer Zeitenwende" (2004), and the cinematic prequel "Die andere Heimat – Chronik einer Sehnsucht" (2013), spans decades of German history through the experiences of the Simon family, inhabitants of the fictional village of Schabbach.

Reitz's style is distinguished by a quasi-documentary approach, a deep attention to everyday details, the landscape, and collective memory. His cinema is an intimate and extensive exploration into the concept of homeland, the flow of time, and the relationship between the individual and major historical events.
